This automated capability is enabling us to unlock knowledge across the business much quicker and share it in a way that speaks to our global audience. It has enhanced our ability to make valuable content accessible in multiple languages. We’re not only streamlining internal expertise but also strengthening the support we offer our customers – ensuring the right information is always available, whenever and wherever it’s needed. – Vanessa Vander Tuff, Group Documentation and Translation Manager, Domino

As a global leader with over 45 years’ experience working at the heart of the industrial and commercial printing markets, Domino recognises that strong customer support and ongoing employee education are essential to success.

Domino identified the challenge of centralizing knowledge and content across its organization. To solve this issue, the company implemented Domino Knowledge – a comprehensive knowledge management solution. By capturing and sharing expertise across the business, Domino Knowledge empowers technical helpdesks, engineers, and customers to access valuable content, ensuring information is always at their fingertips.

As an international business, Domino understands the need for localization to ensure users can access information in their own native language. Alpha CRC partnered with Domino to implement effective localization integrations to enable advanced content translation capabilities from within Domino Knowledge.

Consultations between Alpha CRC and Domino highlighted the need for an extensively automated solution in order to achieve the company’s vision for its knowledge base. Alpha CRC’s localization development team then worked to create a connector that would interface with Domino Knowledge and determine optimal localization workflows.

Close collaboration between the two companies was integral to developing the connector. Alpha CRC staff worked alongside the team at Domino to understand the nuances of their knowledge base, and to define the various paths through which the connector would route files for translation.

In order to ensure optimal content availability, it was decided that all content would be automatically translated into English as an initial step. Alpha CRC’s connector would detect the language of any service object tagged for translation, which was sent through an API and would appear instantly on Domino’s systems.

Domino users could then request content to be translated into other languages, subject to approval from the Domino Knowledge team. Domino content teams can also decide whether content should be proactively translated. In this scenario, the connector filters through service objects awaiting translation to create new tasks within Alpha CRC’s internal Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools. Domino’s team can then tag these objects, which will follow workflows tailored to their specific requirements.

Alpha CRC’s custom connector has enabled Domino to benefit from rapid turnaround times, with automated workflows delivering translations in minutes. Furthermore, cumbersome project management and manual file handling has been largely eliminated, reducing the overall turnaround time by up to 20%. Crucially, this enables Domino to provide knowledge to their client base around the world more easily than before, an example of the company’s commitment to ‘do more’ for its global customers.

As Domino continues its global knowledge base roll-out, more language combinations and content will be processed by the connector. Alpha CRC is now working on translation memory optimization and consolidation, as well as refined glossary implementation, in order to further enhance translated output.
